Bernard Schottlander model G-37 floor lamp

Schottlander, Bernard, Bergboms, Floor Lamps, Sweden, 1950s

A very rare model "G-37" floor lamp, designed in 1951 by Bernard Schottlander. This metal lamp was produced under license by Bergboms, Sweden. Due to its construction of tripod feet, the long, slender and bent stem and the sculpted shade, it was also called the 'Mantis' lamp.

The lamp is made of a white lacquered metal frame and an adjustable orange shade. The lamp is adjustable and has a counterweight to keep it fixed. The height can vary between 135 and 170 cm.

Schottlander was a German-born sculptor and designer who lived and worked in England for most of his life. Inspired by the Kinetic sculptures of Alexander Calder, he designed his series of 'Mantis' lamps in 1951. In 1963 he made the switch to being a full-time sculptor.
