Pierre Jeanneret Judge's deliberation desk from Chandigarh

Jeanneret, Pierre, Desks, India, 1950s

A rare, teak Judge's deliberation desk from the Chandigarh High Court, designed by Pierre Jeanneret. The desk can be used by two people and has a shelving unit on both sides.

Its pristine provenance can be traced back to the first lots that became available in Chandigarh, India.

In 1950 the world renowned architect Le Corbusier was asked to design the capital of the states of Haryana and Punjab in the newly independent India. Le Corbusier designed the master plan and a number of buildings. Pierre Jeanneret, his cousin, served as the site architect and was responsible for all the furniture, or 'Equipment' as Le Corbusier preferred to call it. For this project they stepped away from mass produced steel and relied on the skills of local craftsmen. Jeanneret also designed several buildings for the city and the furniture for many projects, including the Palace of Assembly and the High Court.

We have several pieces by Jeanneret available.
