Song dynasty porcelain bowl

Ceramics, China, Song dynasty (960-1279 CE)

A delicate Chinese white glazed chrysanthemum flower shaped bowl on a short foot. The finest pieces of this kind are thin-walled and light as a feather.

The precedent for this floral form is found in earlier metalwork and it has been suggested that the imitation of silver influenced the production of white glazed ceramics.

Song Dynasty ceramics (960–1279 CE) are renowned for their refined simplicity, focusing on elegant shapes, subtle glazes, and natural beauty. Rather than elaborate decoration, they emphasize minimalism, balance, and craftsmanship.
