Westman, Carl

(1866 - 1936)

Ernst Carl Westman was a Swedish architect and interior designer. After graduating, he moved to New York, where he worked fort he architect R. L. Daus from 1893 to 1895. He returned to Stockholm in 1895 and started working for the architect Aron Johansson, before opening his own studio in 1897. His architectural work includes a number of villas and hospitals and, most importantly, Stockholm’s city hall (1911-15). His furniture designs were inspired by the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements.
