Rohe, Ludwig Mies van der

Maria Ludwig Michael Mies better known as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was a German-American architect and designer. He was one of the most important figures of Modern architecture. He was director of the influential Bauhaus school (1930 – 33). He left for the USA in 1937, where he became head of the department of architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. His work in the US was an important influence on the so called International Style of architecture.
