Liberty & Co, founded by Arthur Lasenby Liberty in 1875, played a pivotal role in promoting Arts and Crafts furniture and decorative art. Originally focusing on exotic goods from the East, Liberty & Co became synonymous with the Arts and Crafts movement by the late 19th century.
The company, under the design direction of Leonard Wyburd and others, introduced distinctive furniture styles with intricate craftsmanship, appealing to a broad market. While early designs were influenced by exotic cultures, Liberty later embraced the modernist and Arts and Crafts styles, producing highly sought-after pieces made from oak, metal, and glass, including famous designs by Archibald Knox.
