Marianne Brandt (née Liebe) was a German painter, sculptor, photographer and designer. She studied under László Moholy-Nagy at the Bauhaus art school in Weimar and became head of the Bauhaus Metal Workshop in Dessau in 1927. At the Bauhaus she designed and produced lamps and household objects.
She left the Bauhaus in 1929 and started working for Walter Gropius in his Berlin studio. From 1949 to 1951 Brandt was a lecturer at the Dresden Academy of Fine Art and from 1951 to 1954 she worked at the Academy of Applied Art in Berlin.
