An oak desk, designed by Willem Penaat in 1925 for the Dutch furniture store Metz & Co.

The desk has a drawer, bookcase on each side and a green vinyl workpad inlay. The drawer has two wonderful and subtle sculpted grips.

Penaat has always devoted himself to the development of a new furniture and interior design. Like Hendrik Petrus Berlage, Jac. van den Bosch and Karel de Bazel he designed simple furniture with a clear construction. The development of his furniture shows a meticulous pursuit of an optimal end result, whereby the wishes of the users, simple manufacturing and a contemporary form were the most important criteria. Penaat's furniture and interiors are more sober than those of like-minded colleagues.
