Contour dining table by Maurice van Bakel

Van Bakel, Maurice, Dining tables, Netherlands, 2020s

The Contour table is designed by architect Maurice van Bakel and derives from the desire to create a table that both blends with the straight lining of most architecture and the more flexible angles we appreciate in usage.

The combined angled and straight lines of the table top allow for a variation on perspective and distance between the people sitting at the table.  This is further enhanced by the rounded corners and the monumental base structure. The table top is supported by two pillars, a round column and a flattened leg. The flattened leg is a visual separation between the spacious area and the more intimate. This creates maximum flexibility in movement around as well as underneath the table.

As with all designs by Maurice van Bakel, it honors functional simplicity in both design as well as the selection of honest and pure materials.

Executed in walnut with a natural finish which gives warmth and allows it to age naturally.
