Rockhausen, Arthur

(1887 - 1948)

Arthur Rockhausen was a German designer. He worked for the Rockhausen family company, which was founded by his father, Carl Ernst Louis, in Waldheim in 1866. In 1902 Carl’s sons joined the company, with Arthur as the director and designer. They specialized in office and school chairs with a bent wood seating and backrest. The innovative character of the chairs resulted in them being used at the Werkbund ‘Die Wohnung’ exhibition in Stuttgart, 1927. The company was split up in 1933 and Arthur continued under the name Ernst Rockhausen Söhne.
