Nyquist, John

(1936 - 2018)

John Nyquist was a Long Beach woodworker and furniture designer. He had a career of almost 50 years and was known for his hand-built, made-to-order furniture. Like Sam Maloof and Arthur Espenet Carpenter, he was inspired by the “California roundover” movement, that was pioneered by Charles and Henry Greene.  This style was characterized by how woodworkers sculpted the edge of a tabletop or the arm of a chair, combining organic and architectural forms.
