Nielsen, Rigmor

Rigmor Nielsen was a Danish painter and ceramic artist. She grew up on the remote island of Bornholm, which has a strong tradition of pottery, due to the good quality of clay that is found here. It was on the same island that the Søholm Keramik company was founded in 1835. She worked at the Søholm company as a decoration painter and designer from 1940 to 1989. In the 1950s she designed and decorated the 'Sandvig' series, named after the town on Bornholm she was from and also her nickname at the company. It was a large collection of ceramic pieces with decorations of flowers, plants and abstract motifs. She is perhaps most famous today for the floor lamps she designed and decorated in the 1960s, in a more colorful style than her 'Sandvig' pieces.
