Bang, Arne

(1901 - 1983)

Arne Bang (1901 – 1983) was one of the most prolific Danish ceramists. He was trained as a sculptor and in 1926 he started a Københavns Stentøjs Brænderi with Carl Halier. In 1929 he was hired by Holmegaard Glassworks to start a ceramic division: Holmegaards Stentøj, which produced his designs. He also made his own studio pieces.

As a general rule, the lower the model number, the older his pieces are. Most of his work was made in production, but Bang made some studio pieces, typically incised with ‘AB’.

His brother was the architect and designer Jacob E. Bang. His son Jacob also was a ceramist.
