Hozan Zangana Sharwal bench

Zangana, Hozan, Benches, Netherlands, 2010s

The inspiration for this bench is the Kurdish pants (called Sharwal), held together by handmade ropes.
The shape of the base has rendered the ropes obsolute, leaving this minimalistic design.   The inside of this bench is made to store and protect a rolled up carpet, which is often used to sit on the ground while sharing a meal.

This metal bench is custom-made, so the length and to a certain extend the height and depth can be adjusted to your requirements.

Hozan Zangana was born in 1983 in Kirkuk. In 1998, at age fifteen, Hozan Zangana fled his country and applied for asylum in The Netherlands. There he studied at the esteemed art and design universities Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and Design Academy Eindhoven.
