Stam, Mart

Martinus Adrianus (Mart) Stam was a Dutch architect and furniture designer. As an architect he worked on the iconic Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam (1925-31) and the Neues Frankfurt project of Ernst May (1925-30). Stam also built a house on the Weissenhof Estate in Stuttgart (1927). He worked in the Soviet Union from 1930 to 1934, after which he worked in Amsterdam, Dresden and Berlin. His most famous furniture design was the steel tube chair of 1926.
